I approach set design with a joy of storytelling — creating a visual environment that will illuminate the narrative, themes and characters.
I previously lived in Los Angeles, building my days to join 800, where I gained experience in film, TV and commercials, learning the relationship between the various departments — art, construction, production — and professionals such as the director and the cinematographer. I gained knowledge in set-construction techniques, research methods, how to allow for varied camera angles, and devices for creating “movie magic.”
As much as I loved set design, I returned to my roots in architecture, (I have a Bachelor of Arch degree from Virginia Tech and a Master of Arch II degree from Yale). I’ve designed and renovated buildings in a broad range of sectors and in historic and contemporary styles. My experience in both large, high-profile and small, boutique firms, as well as in my own practice, has given me a strong aesthetic design sensibility combined with exceptional drawing skills. I am now reigniting my enthusiasm for set design.
I am highly organized, resourceful in problem-solving and maximizing budget resources and able to immediately change direction as circumstances arise. Exceptionally motivated, I have the initiative to make things happen.
